Starvation Tolerance of Early Stage Laguncula pulchella (Naticidae)

چکیده
The starvation tolerance of the moonsnail Laguncula pulchella was examined under nonfeeding conditions in laboratory using individuals at early stages development, which comprised subadults (?19 mm shell width) and newly hatched juveniles (?1.7 mm). survived for ?86 days 20°C, ?56 25°C, ?22 30°C, whereas ?323 20°C ?181 30°C. These ranges were relatively greater than those other gastropods. There a positive correlation between size duration juvenile survival, indicating that larger sizes have more energy stores. high L. might be contributing to its invasion success habitats with low prey availability.

Mechanisms of starvation tolerance in pearl millet.
The response of pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum [L.]) seedlings to prolonged starvation was investigated at the biochemical and ultrastructural level. After 2 days of darkness the bulk of the seedling carbohydrate reserves were depleted. After 8 days in the dark the respiratory rate had declined to less than 50% of its initial value and the plants had lost half of their total protein content. ...

The Oryza sativa L. F8 population derived from a cross between salt tolerance cv. Ahlemi Tarom and salt sensitive cv. Neda was used in the study. Germinated seeds floated on water for 3 d, and after were transferred to float on Yoshida's nutrient solution for 11 d. two weeks after sowing, the seedling was transferred to nutrient solution containing 51.19 mM NaCl (electrical conductivity 6 dSm-1...

Despite the low nutrient level and constant presence of secondary disinfectants, bacterial re-growth still occurs in drinking water distribution systems. The molecular mechanisms that starved bacteria use to survive low-level chlorine-based disinfectants are not well understood. The objective of this study is to investigate these molecular mechanisms at the protein level that prepare starved ce...
متن کاملEarly life stage salinity tolerance of wild and hatchery-reared juvenile pink salmon Oncorhynchus gorbuscha.
Salinity tolerance in wild (Glendale) and hatchery (Quinsam) pink salmon Oncorhynchus gorbuscha (average mass 0·2 g) was assessed by measuring whole body [Na(+)] and [Cl⁻] after 24 or 72 h exposures to fresh water (FW) and 33, 66 or 100% sea water (SW). Gill Na(+), K(+)-ATPase activity was measured following exposure to FW and 100% SW and increased significantly in both populations after a 24 h...
متن کاملP-121: Which Developmental Stage is Suitable for Re-vitrification? Compact Stage Re-vitrification or Early Blastocyst Stage Re-vitrification
Background: The aim of this study was evaluation of developmental rate and Bax, Bcl-2 and ErbB4 genes expression following re-vitrification in compact and early blastocysts stages. Materials and Methods: 5-8 cell embryos were collected from female mature mice, 60-62 hours post hCG injection. The embryos were divided to five groups including: fresh, vitrified at 5-8 cells, vitrified at blastocys...
